First you all need to head over to Vixen’s Pixels and gaze upon some beautiful beach….those of you in winter will be warmed just looking! (Be sure to scroll through, there are six or so new pictures!)
As some of you may know, I had my food stamp intake at 6:45 am (“Don’t be late!”). Apparently, the office opens the door at 6:45am, but no one arrives to do any work until 7 or 7:30am. Then you get taken into a back office where a very ‘nice’ lady talks down to you and goes on and on about how “lucky she is to have a job.” (insert knife into my heart now).
She may add a snarky comment like “You people (yes, she actually said that). You always do that. You put down no income except unemployment and we give you the special expedited appointments and when you show up, THEN you claim income.” I say something like, “Oh, but I thought that my daughter’s (full time high school student) part time job income didn’t count, so I didn’t list it. Sorry.” To which she may reply along the lines of “Well, it doesn’t count, but I am just saying.” And then I just blink, uncomprehending.
So it takes another hour or two (okay 15 minutes shy of three) while you sit in the waiting room to get you set up with your little EBT card. But ALAS, you have food. Just before you faint from starvation.
I still haven’t received my unemployment check. It has been three weeks. They (EDD) says to give them 10 days, they don’t mention 21 days. But if you call the automated phone center to check the status of your check. You are informed (for three days straight now) that “they are currently receiving more calls than they can accommodate.” And maybe you could call back between 1:17am and 2:39am during a waxing gibbous quarter moon in the year of the rabbit on an odd numbered day. Maybe then the automatic machine could give you status. And then this afternoon I hear on the news that our dear Govinator Arnold has told the government offices not to come to work tomorrow. And the state will be issuing IOUs for tax refunds!
But hey, I am going to cook something wonderful for dinner! Now that I have brain food, maybe I can apply my brain to this here blog! Catch you all tomorrow!
EDITED: To furlogh or not to furlogh. Apparently the Gov and the Atty Gen and some judge can’t decide if they work or not tomorrow! Us Californians….we never could make up our minds….
