Trying To Fit It All In On Friday

Whew, from last Friday to this Friday a lot has happened. I am a new aunt again, as my step-brother had his second daughter yesterday. She is a beautiful baby girl 6lbs 6oz and she and mom are doing well. Presto (our NICU) baby is doing FANTASTIC. He is off all IVs and never had to get a PIC line. He gets a little nasal cannula oxygen once in while, but most importantly is feeding and tolerating food well. He even had his first bowel movement, which means he is processing his food! Mom got to hold him outside the incubator yesterday! We had some issues with the horses and got out of our lease on Tuesday. I have been praying about it, and talking to some people (and will do some more talking), but I think I have come up with a new plan which I hope to share in the next week or so. There has been some other drama in my life, which was affecting my personal feelings of well-being and peace, but I am working and praying on those also. Babysitting RolyPoly three days a week has really cut into my sewing time and ApronFrenzy is taking a hit. I spent a ton of money on material months ago and with all that has been going in my life over the last few months I got very few done. So today I am offering up the SALE OF THE CENTURY. For one day only. Even if you don’t want them, but sure and tell your friends, I could use the help! If you order all three of these awesome 4th of July Snoopy aprons before 3:45pm PST TODAY, I will include overnight delivery (for Saturday, just in time for your 4th of July celebration) at no extra charge, you just pay the regular S&H and I will pick up the difference for overnight service! Plus I am giving you the sale price on these three aprons (total value of $84.93) for just $67.94. That is a savings of 20% off retail! All three aprons are the made from the same material so can be used together as a family set, or split up for hostess gifts. The women’s Maryjane style can be seen here. The Unisex Adult BBQ (can be worn by male for female) style can be seen in the right picture of this post here. The child’s matching apron is the same exact style as the Adult BBQ apron and is a medium, it has one long tie so can adjust to fit most any child.

Buy here.

Now I still have a lot of money invested into aprons with a patriotic or red/white/blue theme to them and I will continue to finish them up, because to me summer=BBQ and BBQ=America. But this is the only material I have that actually says 4th of July, so I really want someone to have them for this holiday. Thus the sale. Tell your friends, tell your parents, tell your neighbors!

You can click here to purchase the set. Thanks for everything and Happy Independence Weekend!

Let the Patriotic Purchasing Begin

This retro-fashioned apron, is a full women’s apron. Decorated with a four-darted overskirt of patriotic 4th of July Peanut’s Gang print and the gang also cheers up the waistband and ties. This stylish apron has a lower, under apron with 10 darts for a very stylish fit. The matching print of red stripes with blue stars is carried up into the bodice, which sports an old fashion styled wide collar. Slip over the neck with no worries about how to tie the top. Extra long waist ties make this a one-size fits all apron and is one-of-a-kind (really, I only made one and it should be yours!) To purchase click here.

Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending

Shhh, there is a baby asleep in my bed. I got to see the newest addition yesterday in the NICU. He is tiny, but doing well. His breathing is doing great, they took him off the vent, then put him on a cannula and by yesterday morn his ABGs were so good they were thinking about talking that off too. They are considering his gestational age at 30 weeks (so the neonatologist was wrong in her hopes that he was 32-33). So the doc says consider her due date (Aug 26th) as the date he may get to come home. It could be earlier, but we won’t know for some time. The issue now will be feeding. Apparently babies this young aren’t quite ready for food. The have started a pic line and a feeding tube. They will begin with just some sugar water and over the next few weeks start introducing some proteins/food slowly. There is some risk he may react to the food, not be able to tolerate it, or develop an infection. The doc says the NICU is a roller coaster ride and right now we are on the kiddie ride, but at any moment we could end up at the top of a big drop and not know how we got there. He took the pacifier and sucked a few times, which is a very good sign. Funny aside: the NICU doc recognized me as he was RolyPoly’s NICU doc in April and he remembered RolyPoly and asked how he was doing. I guess you could say I am getting to be the NICU Grama-expert. Not a great title, but I’ll take what I can get. Mom recovered very quickly and is doing pretty well. Still getting a little magnesium for her HBP, but otherwise great. Except she really wanted to go see little “Presto”. Thanks to Anna for his nickname, because it really was ‘hey, you are going to have a baby in a few weeks and then “Presto”: You are having a baby right now!’ I am not sure (because I have been babysitting RolyPoly this morning), but I think SusyQ was going to be allowed to try and get up to walk a bit last night and visit Presto in the NICU. Hope that went well.

In the meanwhile, I need to get back to 4th of July aprons or it will be November before they are done and what a waste that will be. Sometimes life throws punches at me and I can deflect them, sometimes they land a good blow. I just take it as best I can. The Universe sent me this note this morning and I am trying to take it to heart:

Actually, Vixen, it’s easier to accept others, than to change them.

It’s wiser to understand them, than to get angry.

And most of the time, it’s more fun to love ’em, than to leave ’em.

Your call,
The Universe

Have a wonderful Thursday and enjoy your loved ones. Sometimes it’s not easy, but it is always worth it in the end.

Weekends are a bit like rainbows; they look good from a distance but disappear when you get up close to them.

It is Friday and as the weekend approaches I wanted to post some things and catch you all up on life at the den. I am going to do some bullets here, so don’t I don’t get too overwhelmed!

  • Funsize went back to work starting last week and so we are babysitting RolyPoly three days a week. I now remember how much fun it is to have a baby all day. I also remember how that fun takes up all your free time.
  • I really did post this week. Three times in fact! (ha ha, you know I didn’t actually do three posts this week.) Well, I did. I just posted them all today! Tricky, right? So go now and read. On Tuesday, I told you all about how I’ve been laid up for a week or two. On Wednesday, I did a Wordless Wednesday (adorable baby pic!). And on Thursday I shared a recipe with you!
  • I have a review coming up for some wonderful, natural cleaning supplies. Now that there is a baby in the house, I find it more important to go green!  You can go ahead and check them out, because my review is a very, very positive one! http://www.ecostoreusa.com/
  • It’s almost 4th of July and BBQ season has already begun. In the next few days/week there will be a lot of new stuff going on at ApronFrenzy so get ready to shop and share with your friends and family. Or feel free to buy the ones already there!
  • I updated WordPress and now blog is funky and off and I can’t fix it. I mean I know how to fix it, back in the days before GoDaddyTheAwful got me all infected and then denied it. But back then I transferred to a new host and guess what???? I am so brain dead that I never asked how to get to my FTP to fix things! Brilliant, huh? Here’s hoping @princessjenn gets back to me soon, lol.
  • Enjoy your weekend, please comment on my posts from this week and continue to come and visit me! I’ve missed your input and visits. I’ll leave you with a lovely little up and coming cowgirl-in-training, my Butterball!

Happy Bunny Trails To You

I’ve been running the sewing machine non-stop lately! I am working on some Easter outfits for the girls and will post them as soon as they are done. I have a post about our super, wonderful trip to Legoland and an ‘in real life’ get-together with some lovely tweeples we attended on Sunday. Now, I really want to attend Bloggy Boot Camp in AZ on May 1st, for the fun AND because I will be visiting a special online friend who I need to hang with in person! All I need to is to raise $99 bucks for the conference. So I am going to be seriously pushing the aprons on you and you can tell all your friends. Today, tomorrow and Wednesday, all the remaining Easter aprons are on SALE. And I’ll guarantee delivery by Friday if you order by 3pm PST Wednesday. These are the remaining aprons. I will also be whipping up some new fun ones for after Wednesday so I can get my ticket! Head on over to ApronFrenzy and check it all out.

Also don’t forget to share a recipe here for a chance to win Rachel Ray Bakeware. (ends Friday at midnight PST)

The Trendy TreehouseIt’s time for food! A recipe from me to you (or rather my mother, since it is her recipe). Recently, CSN Network contacted me about reviewing a product from one of their many stores. It was hard to decide, as they have so very many places to shop! The recipe I am going to share with you has been my favorite since I was a kid. I have made it many times over the year, but it never quite comes out the way my mom’s always did. I decided it was because I didn’t have a large oval baking dish from 1965. Being unable to locate one, I found the Rachael Ray “Bubble & Brown” 3-Qt. Stoneware Baker while searching for something to review. It was the “Bubble and Brown” that caught my eye! You see, a lack of crusty goodness is exactly what has been missing from my rendition of mom’s recipe! That is my fave part of this dish and we’ve (okay just me and my dad) had full on physical battles at the dinner table fighting over who gets to scrape the bottom and sides of the dish!

So, here is my recipe and my review:

Scalloped Potatoes

  • 6 medium potatoes (peeled and sliced)
  • 3 Tbl. butter or margarine
  • 2 Tbl. flour
  • 3 C milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 2 Tbl onion
  • 1 ham steak (cut into pieces)

Make white sauce of butter, flour and milk. Layer potatoes and ham cover with seasoning on each layer (end with potatoes only). Cover and bake at 350 about one hour. Uncover and continue baking until top is browned (at least another 30-45 minutes) My additions to mom’s recipe: I use a food processor to slice my potatoes really thin-easier and they cook faster. If you know my family, you know onions are not allowed into any food. Of course, I use onion in everything: they just don’t know it. To avoid detection, I food process my onion into mush. To make it even simpler, I go ahead and poor that mush into the white sauce after it’s done. Then all I do is ladle the sauce in and I don’t have to layer the onions. Lastly, I don’t measure the salt and pepper. I just well salt and pepper each and every layer. Well.

Review:

The pan is huge. Much bigger than I pictured it would be, but that works for me because I never use the recipe as stated above. I always double the potatoes and sauce. Otherwise, someone in the house wouldn’t get to eat (and it would not be me!). It’s just too yummy to stop with just one serving. My browning issues were definitely resolved with the baker! What I was most impressed with was the cleanup. After baking, this recipe it is really cooked on to the pan (despite my best scraping techniques) and this cleaned up so easily. The handles are awesome for getting it in and out of the oven. The only drawback, if I had to find one, was covering it. I used heavy foil and tucked it into the handles, which worked fine, but for this particular recipe it would be nice to have a lid. All in all, I give the Rachael Ray “Bubble & Brown” 3-Qt. Stoneware Baker a huge thumbs up!

I also made a lasagne in this pan and it was fantastic! I’ve only had the thing a week and already we’veIMG_5381 had two meals in it. But I want more! This is where you, my lovely readers and friends, come in. In the comments, leave me your favorite cassarole recipe so I can try it in my new Bubble and Brown 10 oz. Ramekins in Blue (Set of 4) pan! As a reward (besides access to my mother’s secret recipe-Hi, Mom! Hope you don’t mind I published your recipe to the world) you will get a chance to win this Rachael Ray Bubble and Brown 4-Piece 10 oz. Ramekin Set. How cute are those, right? That is a lot of reward for just a recipe!

This contest runs through next Friday, April 2nd ending midnight PST. To enter you must leave a recipe (or link) in the comment section of this post (required). Make sure you leave a valid email address also. Want additional entries? Okay. Choose any (or all of these), but be sure to leave a separate comment for each entry.
