Too Overwhelmed to Write

So a lot of things have changed around here since I have been regularly posting. So much, that I eventually gave up posting. I was/am overwhelmed. I want to share everything but there is so much I can’t get myself to do it. It seems impossible. So I will use bullets to share highlights of what I can remember. And then, if anyone still reads here, you can all PIPE UP in the comments and tell me which teaser you would like more information on first and that will be my next post! Sounds fun. (probably won’t work because no one reads anymore, but perhaps all this will be out-of-the-way and I will be free to begin blogging again? One can hope?)

  • RolyPoly is getting a baby sister! MacD and Funsize are having a scheduled c-section on Aug 30th. The baby needs a super-secret-internet name. You all should get on that right NOW.
  • Bear and Fishboy became engaged just before Christmas.
  • We got a second horse at Christmas. Miss Bonnie Blue (reg. Pushin Little Princess) is a curious, intelligent, trouble making sweetheart TN Walking Horse. She and Calypso adore each other. It was a gift from me to Mr. Vixen so we could start riding together.
  • Mr. Vixen got a new knee!
  • In February, at the beginning of my first ever trail ride a motorcycle came up on a side road and scared Calypso. He spun and took off, along with the two horses that were being ponied by my friends. I did not make the spin. I instead launched off, rolled down an embankment and landed under a pasture fence. I broke 7 bones throughout my body, needed surgical repair (pins) placed in my finger, bruised everything and also tore some menisc-ally stuff that still is going to need surgery to repair. Was not fun.
  • Because of that I haven’t ridden much and am just getting my confidence back.
  • Baby Banana (Nannygoat’s youngest) is going to turn one next month and she has THE MOST BEAUTIFUL EYES of any child on the planet. I have pictures to prove it. She also needs a better S-S-I name, which you all can pick too.
  • In May, Fishboy decided he did not want to be a part of the den anymore. At all. This caused significant heartache for Bear and for us to have to move on very short notice.
  • However, sometimes good things come out of bad experiences. In June, we relocated the Den to “Pterodactyl Ranch”. Our house is twice as big as before, has central air and (most importantly) is a horse property.
  • The horses now live in my back yard. This has reduced our TV time to zero and computer time to 1/16th of what it was before. We are real country-folk now. Living in the country is 100 times less stressful than I dreamed.
  • Being in the country and working on 2-acres of yard that had gone to waste is a good way to start losing weight. Mr. Vixen has lost 15 pounds already and I have lost 9. I am still more overweight than I have ever been in my entire life (even pregnant) and need to find ways to make that happen.
  • I made some super cute things for the new baby girl’s baby shower, very original, keepsake value and uber-inexpensive. I should put up how-to and pictures, right?

I know there are many, many more things I have left out. But if I don’t post this now….it will just sit here for another year and even more stuff will happen.

Know that I am still here and still reading all your blogs, even though I may not comment! Leave me a comment and help me change that!

The hair is the richest ornament of women

Last Wednesday, Bear and I joined the SDMomfia for a night at Detour Salon where we were treated to champagne, fantastic catered food and some great hair stylists!

We each were pampered by our very own stylist, ready to restore our hair with a deep conditioning and answer any styling questions we had. My stylist was the very best. It has been years since I’ve had my hair done in a salon and sheDeTours2 certainly reminded me of why I did and why I miss it. She not only treated my hair to a deep conditioning (the benefits of which I am still feeling), she took a bad cut and reworked it into what I had asked for in the first place! Then she proceeded to show me how to style it into the look I wanted. I scheduled my next visit before I left.

The salon itself is exactly as they claim: Hip and urban. I loved the look and feel of the place. The owners, along with the stylists, are charming, funny and they know HAIR.

I went in thinking I’d get to visit with my lovely friends and treat Bear to a deep conditioning for her hair- you know, chat a little and sip some champagne. I got that and so much more. I came home hair ‘smarter’, better able to style my own hair and the proud new client of hairdresser. I love that I can now say, “My hairdresser….”

The night was wonderful and made extra special by the bonus of finding a hair dresser I adore. As we were leaving, Bear spotted the ‘feather extensions’ and talked me into getting one also, although I had never heard of them before. We left with fab hair, a little more hip and urban than when we entered. If you are looking for a great salon, I highly recommend Detour.

The pictures aren’t great, I forgot my camera so I only had my phone which doesn’t do great in low light. Bear’s hair looked so HOT.

Word of warning if you are considering having a feather extension and you own cats. You may wake up in the night with a cat on your head and the sound of chewing in your ear….just saying.

Time Consumption

Feeling down? Saddle up.

My derriere sore, my spirit soaring, self confidence growing, physically glowing and with a peaceful soul is how I ended my first lesson last night.

My trainer is a soft-spoken young man with southern charm, mixed with a bit of slave driver (and pretty darned handsome too). As he got to know me and my skills set, there were many laughs. At least, Bear was laughing. He worked me hard on a lovely rascal who is well trained in reining (for those of you who follow me on FB ironic isn’t it? Since I posted that video of Stacy Westfall the other day?). My experience in riding has been the lazy, well broken horses at rental places and my time with Rain. Riding a reining horse was AMAZING. I did tight turns, figure eight, spun in a circle and attempted to stop on a dime. I’ve never done any  of those things before, but I could easily become addicted to it.

Fun moments for Bear? When the trainer had me out trotting for a bit and then said, “Okay, now post” and I stopped and said “Do what?”. When Bear caught her breath from laughter she told him, “She doesn’t know how to post” and I said, “For heavens sake, not only can I not I post…I don’t even know what posting it is.” Then later, he said “Okay, now canter” and I squealed, “You want me to go faster?!” To which he replied, “Yes and take your hand off the saddle horn.” Ha ha. Go faster and not hang on?!?!?! And while I was doing figure eights he said, “Please don’t run me over again.” Totally not my fault, he was making me trot AND do figure 8s at the same time, not running him over while doing it? Not possible.

I did it all. I was able to post (not well most of the time, but I had a few moments), I went FAST, I twirled, I rejoiced. He asked what my goals were at the end of our session and I told him: To be able to ride as instructed without Bear giggling at me! And then maybe barrel racing. Hey, a girl can dream right?

Oh, and I might have accidentally ended up adopting another stray cat…..Okay, I did. I will introduce you to Luna this week!

A Pony Named Hurry

IMG_0287 On Sunday, a group of bloggers was invited to Family Fun Day at the Del Mar Races. The weather was so perfect and I sprang for valet parking (I know, I really stepped out there didn’t I?). We took the g-babes and Bear. We got to visit a bit with a bunch of bloggers (for the first time I knew more of them than I didn’t know….I have really expanded my horizons, right?). Took the girls on a ride or two, waited in line for food, and bet on one race.

All in all, the girls had a wonderful time and it reminded my husband and I that we haven’t been to the races in years and years. So we have arranged for an ‘adult’ day during the week for us to go back and spend the day, betting, losing winning and just having fun.

Both the girls received a Webkinz Plush Horse as we entered the gates. I asked Ladybug what she was going to name hers and she said Hurry. I had her repeat it twice to be sure. So maybe the five year old understands more about horse racing than I thought?IMG_0285

If you can’t get a sitter and have kids ages 5-12, there is also “Camp Del Mar”. Open everyday during the season, this is a safe, fun place to bring your kids for the day while parents have some adult-time at the races.

There will also be another Family Fun Day over Labor Day weekend. Huge thanks to the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club for hosting and @HipMamaB for the invite!

WW~We Went Haircut CRAZY

I thought I wanted a career, turns out I just wanted paychecks.

Good Friday morning one and all. Today I will be babysitting the highly entertaining, nearly three month old, RolyPoly so here is my quick post for the day before he arrives.

As you all know, I got my blog all prettified by the lovely Jenn at Designs By Princess Jenn. I am still accepting any and all compliments. I recommend her prices, her talent and her devotion to making your site whatever you want it to be!

For Father’s Day, I had Mr. Vixen’s Camaro painted. There were some issues (it ended up painted twice) and wasn’t ready until this week. But anyone can see it was worth the wait:

The last of my unemployment/disability ended yesterday. Knowing this was coming, I have applied for 50-60 jobs in the last two months. I will admit there are many more jobs listed out there than back in Jan 2009, but there still seems to be some problem with ANYONE calling me to interview. I had a professional take a look at my resume, so that isn’t the problem. It may be there are just still too many of us unemployed people out there. So if you know anyone who is looking to hire the best and the brightest: send them my way. I am a buyer/planner, but also an office manager, administrative assistant and I can be anyone’s right-hand (wo)man!

I am still behind in blogging things, but working hard to post daily is catching me up. Dear Bear is getting quite impatient for her “annual” birthday post (June 27 was her day) and I have promised her I will get to that at least next week.
I hope no other San Diegans hate me for this: But my only true hope for the weekend end is that this record-breaking cold weather goes away and we get a little JULY SIZZLE going. I want to hit the beach!

Bullet Test or Bullet Proof….

I have a new site design, I have a new site design, la la la laaaaaa la la.

I should post something right? Well, it was a holiday weekend you know. I got a little behind, what with all the days off and stuff (you people who know I am unemployed and always ‘off” just shush yourselves!) We had a wonderful holiday weekend, I have pics to share. We had fireworks (you people who know where we live and that they are illegal here? just shush yourselves again!)

I want to see what bullets look like on the new site so here we gooooooooooooo:

  • I got to HOLD Presto today. I happened to show up at the NICU at just the right moment and now, Bear and I are the only people who have had the chance to hold him (besides his lucky, blessed, lovely parents). He was SO TINY and light (compared to RolyPoly). But he gained another 2 ozs in the last two days. That boy will be home before I can say, ummm, Presto!
  • I have talked to some trainers/horse people/my heart and my sister (who happens to own  a stable in KY and lots of horses-including one who ran IN THE Kentucky Derby year before last. I have decided (with Bear) on a new approach to our riding and my beloved horse, Rain. I quit my lease and restarted it again (crazy much) within days. But now Bear and I are working together with just Rain. When I am confident (and as talented as Bear), then she will look back into leasing Knighthawk when she can concentrate on what he needs and not have to watch over me.
  • I rode today and I wasn’t afraid. It was relaxing, yet exhilarating. Peaceful and contemplative. Perfect.  Also my new helmet fits well, not that I needed it.
  • On Thursday, Bear and I are getting more spa-stuff: Hyrdo Therapy, facials, massage, some super shower thingy (using up what is left on our Groupons. Sure wish they hadn’t had a limit of one per person.) I could completely and totally become a rich person who goes to the spa daily. I could. I just know I could.
  • Tomorrow I will be babysitting RolyPoly. We get him three days a week. You probably notice which days they are, because those are the days I don’t post anything.
  • I feel better emotionally and spiritually today than I have in months. I wonder if it’s just that super cute new header?!?! I mean Jenn couldn’t have come any closer to ‘creating’ me.
  • My husband got a new steering wheel for Father’s Day. He couldn’t install it before because the car was being painted. It’s in there now. And there must be some issue with the horn. Because HE KEEPS HONKING IT.
  • Done with bullets now. Will go finish cooking dinner.
  • Love you all and you can just keep on leaving me comments about how freaking awesome the new layout is!

In summer, winter, rain or sun; it’s good to be on horseback

I have been thinking for some time now about getting Bear back into riding. It gives her a hobby, rewards her for her hard work and has always increased her self esteem. The added bonus was that I loved watching her bloom and enjoy. I also have a special place in my own heart for horses. I’ve always denied myself things that I enjoy….always considering other things that would please the entire family or my husband or my kids. You know, the ultimate mommy/wife: Them first, me second. I don’t regret those years at all, but I have come to realize that ‘me-second’ usually equated to ‘me-never’. Life has been tossing me hard lessens left and right over the past two years and I am nothing if not a quick learner. What I am learning most is that life is short and you had best enjoy it while you can!

I am working hard on being a better me. A better mom. A better wife. But mostly, just better at being me. I need a life full of love and family and  joy and health. To achieve that I have to work. Not hard work, just attention to detail work. One way I have decided to embark is leasing a horse. Not leasing a horse for Bear, but for myself. Bear is a hard worker (even while being a full-time college student-you go girl!) and is leasing her own horse. But we are doing it together. I get just as much joy (and exercise!) as her and we get to spend time together doing something we both love. Obviously, God was smiling on me when I made this decision, because we found a pair of horses available (owned by a mother/daughter team) that love each other as much as Bear and I love each other.

Even better? The horses picked us. We honestly just bonded together. Without further ado, I introduce our newest heart-holders: Knighthawk and Rain. Knighthawk is a buckskin Mustang, who fell in love with my little filly girl at first sight. Rain is a beautiful black Tennessee Walker who I swear performed a Vulcan mind-meld on me that sealed the deal. So far, we have only ridden a bit in the ring and given them both a much needed bath. Tomorrow we will go out on our first trail ride. I can hardly wait.
