Beauty comes as much from the mind as from the eye

This post is my attempt to win the Say Wow Not Ow Private Yummie Tummie Style Session at BlogHer…..

Last Fall, I started a new chapter of life. It had been over a decade since I had to impress anyone. New job, new co-workers, new expectations, new responsibilities all requiring, of course, a new look. In my previous job, I could wear sweat pants if I wanted to. Not so at the new job. Luckily new job also equaled new paycheck, so I was able to outfit myself fairly well and present a polished, professional me.

Fast forward six months and you cannot find that confident, polished, professional me. She doesn’t exist anymore. I might as well have taken the money I spent on those outfits and had a cash-burning bonfire. As my doctor describes it, a “tempest” wreaked havoc on my body. Some of the changes are permanent and others will be much more difficult to overcome because of the change. After menopause, a woman has to work three times as hard to lose weight and thanks to menopause, I now have over 40 pounds of new weight to lose. I hear from others they ‘can hardly tell’. But I can tell and it hurts. Hurts my head, my mind and my body.

Recently I had to give in and buy two new (bigger) pairs of pants, but my new body shape is so difficult to dress. Nothing is slimming and what is slimming is so painful to wear! I am constantly adjusting my waistband while seated at my desk. And, dear heavens, my underwear. I am constantly having to unroll them!! I try out four shirts every morning trying to find one that doesn’t look awful and always end in a plain, oversized t-shirt. I am always wondering if someone will notice I am wearing the same few outfits over and over. And the mirrors (also windows, shiny cars, etc.), people!!!! The reflections of rolls and blobs and unattractive shapes that surprise me every single time I catch a glimpse! Because I don’t FEEL like that person. I don’t even recognize that person. But it is me. It sucks. Getting old sucks. I suck. (okay, now I sound like Kat VonD).

I need to look better/feel better. My psyche needs the boost. My body needs the relief. And now, just when I am at my lowest psychologically, Yummie Tummie enters into my life (I HOPE)! I feel (know) I could look good with their help! And feeling (looking) good, is key to my success! All I ask from you, dear readers, is you that cross your fingers (check out http://www.yummielife.com/) and toes (follow @yummietummie on twitter) and tell them how much I deserve a personal style session (like their https://www.facebook.com/yummietummie page)! It is possible that next week, not only will my dream of attending BlogHer come true, but I could end up looking good and feeling better!

PS: Doing those things doesn’t help my chances of winning, but it makes me feel good to know y’all love me!

UPDATE 7/30/11: I AM A FINALIST!!!!! PLEASE KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED. AND EVEN IF IT SUPPOSEDLY DOESN’T HELP, GO TALK ABOUT ME ON YUMMIE TUMMIE’S FACEBOOK AND TWITTER! MAYBE WE CAN HARRASS THEM ENOUGH TO CHOOSE ME!!!!

Each time a child is born… the world lights up with new possibilities

As you may recall, we are expecting another bundle of joy in September. Nannygoat is having another girl! Her super-secret-internet name of Baby Banana will be replaced at birth with the more feminine Hannah Banana. Wouldn’t you all love to get an early peek at this precious one? Me too!

Nannygoat is in a very close contest to win a 4D Ultrasound (the pictures look awesome don’t you think?)  So I ask a favor. If you have a facebook account go the the page of Unique Ultrasound (click this LINK) and ‘like’ the page, then leave a comment saying “Shannon Williamson sent me”

And if when she wins, I will share with all of you pictures of Babar!

Not fond of (earwigs) bugs.

The RolyPoly is so very mobile now. He crawls everywhere and is walking with assistance. I think he could take a step or two on his own if he tried, but he doesn’t want to. He loves the attention.

Now that we have a very mobile child in the house 4-5 days a week, young Presto starting to roll over, combined with two new kittens, the existing three dogs and the busy little granddaughters I was reminded I need to continue my previous research into safe cleaning products to use around the house.

Enter EcoSMART a company dedicated to fighting bugs naturally. We spend a lot of time hanging out with the kids (and pets) out in the yard and camping, so I decided to try out the Safe Home Value Bundle for organic and natural home pest control. I may be a nature lover, but I have a (probably unnatural) hatred of earwigs bugs and I am always in need of the best mosquito repellent. I am anxiously awaiting it’s arrival and will let you know how it goes! Here is a a bit about EcoSMART:

Since EcoSMART’s proprietary botanical oil blends attack attributes that are specific only to pests, they have no effect on people, pets or the environment. The primary active ingredients in EcoSMART products are approved as Direct Food Additives or classified as GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration. These oils are commonly used to add flavor and aroma to many cosmetic, beverage and food products, including cake, candy, sweetener, gum, soft drinks, and lipstick. Children and pets are safe. No need to clear them out after application or be concerned if they are near our products. Our products have no adverse effect on mammals, birds, and fish and also will not contaminate water sources.

I would love to give the chance for one of my readers to try out their safe products also. Just leave a comment about why you would like to go green and you will be entered to win your choice of any one of these bundles:

Safe Home Value Bundle
Safe Plant & Garden Value Bundle
Safe Picnic Value Bundle
Safe Patio Value Bundle

Winner will be chosen by random number drawing. Contest ends midnight PST February 15th 2011. Open only to US residents, except AK & HI. Entries must have a valid email address to be contacted if they win. I will be supplied one bundle to review at a later date. EcoSMART is supplying the winner’s bundle but all thoughts and opinions are mine.

The winner is Laura! Congrats!

I Can See Clearly Now…

One of the very first things I am going to do with my new health insurance coverage is get new glasses! Stronger, better, prettier glasses!

Meanwhile, I’ve been making due with my old grandchild abused scratched glasses. I can’t tell you how many times a day RolyPoly manages to grab them off my head. And his adorably grubby fingers make seeing through the lenses nearly impossible. I was pretty excited when I was offered some screen cleaner to review, but I received a Brilliant Lenses set instead.

This stuff is simply brilliant! What a tremendous difference it makes. Over the years, I have tried so many cleaners and my lenses were still always grimy, fuzzy and scratched. This stuff made my glasses almost like new! I can see again!

My laptop screen is even worse as RolyPoly gets to it even more often than he does my glasses. He apparently wants to start his own blog and twitter account. If the screen cleaning wipes work as well as the lens cleaning, someone’s laptop is going to look brilliant and be 50x more scratch resistant!

It’s giving and sharing week around here, so I am offering TWO lucky readers the chance to win some screen cleaners for themselves! To enter follow Brilliant Lens on facebook here and leave them a comment telling them I sent you! OR follow @brilliantlenses on twitter and tweet “Shine on and win Brilliant Screen Cleaning Wipes http://bit.ly/i6evP3 from @BrilliantLenses and @ladybugsgrama”

Winner will be chosen by random number generator. Contest open until midnight PST February 5th 2011.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commissions 16 CFR, Part 255 Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising. If you can’t feed a hundred people, then just feed one

According to Feeding America, approximately 5.7 million different people receive emergency food assistance from the organization in any given week.

It was only a short time ago that I spent long, sleepless nights wondering where my next meal would come from. Not long ago that I depended upon the generosity and kindness of others when I was hungry. I will never forget that time and time cannot diminish the deep appreciation I have for the people who showed me a helping hand in my time of need.

I have pledged since that time, to help whenever and where ever I can. Just by participating in this program, $10 was donated to Feeding America on my behalf. I have the button up on the side of my blog, so anyone, anytime can click to learn more or help out. I have purchased boxes of food from my local Share program to give to those who need a helping hand. And I will share my voice here, when I can.

To raise awareness about the national issue of hunger, Hamburger Helper® has partnered with GRAMMY® Award-winning T MCGRAW SOUTHERN VOICEsinger, songwriter and actor Tim McGraw to help Feeding America deliver millions of meals to local food banks through the Show Your Helping Hand™ campaign. Click here to view the PSA.

I’d like to invite you all to support the campaign by submitting codes from specially marked boxes of Hamburger Helper at www.showyourhelpinghand.com or by logging on to make a donation. Don’t think one code will make a difference? The 17 cents Hamburger Helper donates per code is enough for Feeding America to deliver one meal to a local food bank.

Share your voice and lend a helping hand in the fight against hunger and you could win a prize pack that includes a box of Hamburger Helper skillet meals, a Hamburger Helper foam “Helping Hand” and a copy of Tim McGraw’s Southern Voice CD.

To enter, leave a comment telling me how you can spread the news and share this campaign with others. For an extra entry, tweet “Show your Helping Hand for a chance to win Tim McGraw’s new CD http://bit.ly/flmw7d” and leave a separate comment with the tweet link. For two extra entries, grab the Feeding America button from the side of my blog (with the link) and place it on your blog, leaving me a separate comment with a link to your blog.

EDIT: Contest ends Wednesday January 5th  December 29th (extended due to lack of entries), midnight PST. Prize pack and information were provided to me by Hamburger Helper through MyBlogSpark.

I am thankful for the mess to clean after a party because it means I have been surrounded by friends

I am old-fashioned at heart: special occasion china and china cabinets excite me. I love creating holiday and special occasion meals. I adore the planning and the setting of the table. I even love wearing a holiday appropriate apron – that is how my apron business got started! I never worry too much, I just jump in and enjoy it. It always comes out in the end and I feel so accomplished. When I married, I started two china sets: one special occasion set and one Christmas set. I also have my paternal grandmother’s silver set from when she got married. They are my prized possessions. Through the years I have collected other special items to go with it. Turkey platters, holiday salt/pepper sets and this year I found this fantastic gravy server. The gravy comes out the bird’s beak, how awesome is that?! Behind it you may spy my impulse buy: pure spiced pumpkin butter, but we will get back to that in a moment.

Life happens and my family grew. And grew. And is still growing. My china service, however, stopped growing. As I aged so did my china patterns and, alas, both sets have been discontinued (thank heavens I haven’t been discontinued). I can fancily feed a mere eight people. Which when you like everything to be fancy, special and match? When presentation, presentation, presentation is all? It could be enough to make a hostess sad. Not anymore. This year I won’t have to let my lack of fancy place settings and serving items bring me down!

Mozaik is the perfect solution for those occasions when you don’t have enough dinner ware. For under $10, Mozaik’s new Service for Eight kit will help you stop scrambling for extra place settings when your guest list is larger than your china and flatware collection. The 40-piece “party in a box” adds eight place settings (forks, knives and spoons, salad plates and dinner plates) and is great for every holiday gathering from a small cocktail party to a large holiday buffet.

It fits in my budget! It matches my china! It fits my presentation! And? I don’t have to store it!!!! Win, win, win. Want proof your table’s appearance can by stylish when you use plastic? Can’t take my word for it? Tune into WEtv’s Designing Spaces on November 19th, 21st and 22nd at 9:30 a.m. EST and watch Mozaik expert Jennifer Lucas share tips on how to entertain with more style. If you miss it, visit www.designingspaces.tv to view online. Check out these additions to my repertoire. Plates, utensils, serving forks/spoons, platters and serving bowl:

Everyone who knows me, knows I am all about helping a mother out. Want your own Designing Spaces Prize Pack? All the goodies you see above, delivered to your door? Well, here I am to help make your dreams come true. One lucky reader will win a set, chosen by random drawing on November 28th (midnight PST)! Want to know how you can have a chance? It’s easy. All I ask is that you help me out…..

Remember my impulse buy in the top picture? The pure spiced pumpkin butter? I bought it because it sounded great. Sounding great is probably not a reason to buy something you have never heard of before, let alone tried. My question is this: If a person randomly purchased a jar of pure spiced pumpkin butter and didn’t know what it was….exactly what would a girl do with it? Ideas? Suggestions? Recipes? Each comment earns an entry. Bonus entries: ‘like’ ApronFrenzy on Facebook or follow me on twitter @ladybugsgrama. Leave a separate comment for each entry.

To find out more about the Mozaik line, visit www.mozaikbysabert.com.The Mozaik products, information and additional prize pack to give away were all given to me from Mozaik through MyBlogSpark

The winner is Jenn at In One Ear! Congratulations.

Whoops I Need A Title…

And the winner is????

Drum roll, please? Anyone? Have a drum? Play your fingers on the table top? If it’s not Lily or Will (who entered half a million times) it will be a miracle:

Random Numbers* 15

* This table of 1 random numbers was produced according to the following specifications: Numbers were randomly selected from within the range of 1 to 49. Duplicate numbers were not allowed.

Okay, number 15! I am back from vacation, got home late last night…went up for work at 5 ‘hell o’clock so figure out who you are all by yourself! Hah, just kidding. The winner is….

Wait, I have to go count. Ahhhh, no miracles tonight. If you and your husband enter my contest 43 times out of 49 entries? You might win….

It’s Lily @militaryfamof8: September 16, 2010 at 7:20 am

“blade, blade, blade, blade”
((like the dog from Dr. Doolittle when the dog is saying “tree, tree, tree”

Whew, that was a great contest. I should go on vacation more often!

Thank you all for playing. Trust me, I have much much more to catch you up on! RolyPoly’s introduction to most of the family, Int’l Pirate Day, Federal Penitentiaries and Condoleeza Rice! Bet you can’t wait! But work, she is a wicked slave driver, so you will have to hang on the edges of your chairs (or walkers or high chairs depending on my demographic for the day). I miss you all so much! Work is okay except for the BLOCKING THE INTERNET thing. Sigh.
