Adam and Eve had many advantages but the principal one was, that they escaped teething

It has been 19 years since I spent my days with a teething baby. I am not, at this point, waxing nostalgic.  So far today, it has taken three hours of rocking, swaying, chewing on a vibrating teether, a dose of Ibu, an explosive diaper episode, a calming bath, and more standing and swaying (me not him) to feel the freedom of a 20 minutes nap. Then there was a little more bottle and a 12 minute nap. Then a diaper change and the rest of the bottle and we are now 10 minutes into nap three. And the drool? How did I forget the amount of drool one small being is capable of emitting? Shirt four already today.

Someone remind me why we had to give up the whiskey on the gums thing?

Edited two hours later: Last nap lasted quite a long time, but unable to eat the bottle. A quick run to the store and one small bottle of miracle  (aka Baby Orajel) later and happy RolyPoly is back! Guess I can use that whiskey on myself!

I’ll Be Right There, Honey

Between taking the girls to the pool, visiting Presto in the NICU and the fact that RolyPoly has decided to get teeth at only 3.5 months!!! I sure wish I had time to write some of the posts that have been running through my head. But with teething, RolyPoly only naps for very short bursts of 10 to 5 minutes….wait, maybe 4. Hold on, I’ll be right back.

Friday Heat Frustration

RolyPoly is an outside baby. If you are not holding him IN YOUR ARMS, then he has to be outside. It is the only place he will sit in his swing and be content. I guess there is just so much to look at, he forgets he isn’t being held.

Unfortunately, yesterday (and apparently again today WOO HOO) we have had unseasonably warm weather for here. AND HUMID. I don’t tolerate heat well, but I despise humidity. (Why yes I do melt, just like the wicked witch in the Wizard of Oz. In fact, I have a bumper sticker that says “don’t make me get my flying monkeys” that the family gave me).

Too hot to be outside means we have to figure out not only what to do with ourselves inside all day, but RolyPoly too! Yesterday afternoon though, we had a little thunder/lightening/rain storm roll through. It was muggy and warm, but we haven’t seen one of those since we lived in Utah (pre-1998). So we sat out in the garden to try and enjoy it. RolyPoly got warm right away so we had to remove his onesie. He was sitting the swing looking at the lemon tree when he just started smiling. I have no idea what was so funny about the lemon tree at that moment, but his smile was unbelieveably radiant! And I caught the second one on camera!

This makes it not so frustrating at all. It is, in fact, contagious. Enjoy your weekend! And smile!

Nothing is more exciting and bonding in relationships than creating together

Nannygoat and Lloyd needed a chance to go visit Presto at the NICU and some time to be adults without kids around. So I had Ladybug and Butterball (now also known as the DIVA) over for an evening of fun. As usual, the lords of the universe were smiling upon me because Twittermoms had just sent me a sample of Glue Dots and I was excited to have the girls try them! I didn’t have a big plan for it, so we just grabbed some construction paper and started creating! The girls really liked the Glue Dot applicators, so easy for their little fingers to use (and easy to switch from left to right hand, which is important when you are crafting with a lefty AND a righty at the same time).

First you make it:

Then you show them off:

The you add a bunch more Glue Dots on the back and hang them on Grandma’s fridge!

What great fun we had. I love these Glue Dots, seriously in love. No mess, easy to use, easy to store. I had actually already used some back on Father’s Day for little craft project myself: I did a scrapbook page for MacD for his 1st Father’s Day with RolyPoly and the frame required the picture be sandwiched between glass. The picture kept slipping when Glue Dots came to the rescue:

I thought I wanted a career, turns out I just wanted paychecks.

Good Friday morning one and all. Today I will be babysitting the highly entertaining, nearly three month old, RolyPoly so here is my quick post for the day before he arrives.

As you all know, I got my blog all prettified by the lovely Jenn at Designs By Princess Jenn. I am still accepting any and all compliments. I recommend her prices, her talent and her devotion to making your site whatever you want it to be!

For Father’s Day, I had Mr. Vixen’s Camaro painted. There were some issues (it ended up painted twice) and wasn’t ready until this week. But anyone can see it was worth the wait:

The last of my unemployment/disability ended yesterday. Knowing this was coming, I have applied for 50-60 jobs in the last two months. I will admit there are many more jobs listed out there than back in Jan 2009, but there still seems to be some problem with ANYONE calling me to interview. I had a professional take a look at my resume, so that isn’t the problem. It may be there are just still too many of us unemployed people out there. So if you know anyone who is looking to hire the best and the brightest: send them my way. I am a buyer/planner, but also an office manager, administrative assistant and I can be anyone’s right-hand (wo)man!

I am still behind in blogging things, but working hard to post daily is catching me up. Dear Bear is getting quite impatient for her “annual” birthday post (June 27 was her day) and I have promised her I will get to that at least next week.
I hope no other San Diegans hate me for this: But my only true hope for the weekend end is that this record-breaking cold weather goes away and we get a little JULY SIZZLE going. I want to hit the beach!

Don’t blow it – good planets are hard to find

Some time ago I was approached by ecoSTOREUSA to review two of their products, here is a snippet:

I may not be a mother, wife, or a blogger, but if there’s anything that I know for sure- it’s that you, like me have people in your life that you love.
One way I prove my love to these people is by reducing the amount of chemicals that they come in contact to. This is why I represent www.ecostoreusa.com. An extension of a 20 year old New Zealand company www.ecostore.co.nz that makes affordable plant based, non-toxic Household Cleaning, Baby and Personal Care Products that contain No Nasty Chemicals™.
·Now, more than ever, we believe that the voice of the Mom Blogger, relative to the health of her family and the planet, coincide with the Ecostore mission. Word of mouth marketing and listening to the consumer – that’s us!
·The Founder was a stay at home dad living in an eco-village.
·We offer free shipping on orders over $25 and you can find us at Meijer and Duane Reade stores.

Already having two young grandchildren running around in the house and knowing that when RolyPoly’s mom would return to work we would be tending him several days of the week, I was excited to pick and try two products that would be safer to use around the house for them and for my little chihuahuas (which are just like little people: low to the ground, everything goes in their mouth and they need care, lol).

I chose the All Purpose Cleaner and the Laundry Powder. I found both products to exceed most of my expectations. The citrus-based all purpose cleaner has such a pleasant scent, that it was love at first sniff. But the truly amazing result I found was that after cleaning my counter tops daily with a regular cleanser; the first time I used this new spray my rag came away filthy! There was so much build up on the counters that I wasn’t seeing, I was a bit grossed out by what I saw. My “clean” counters hadn’t really been clean at all until I tried this product. I am actually on my second bottle. I use it every where in the house, from the kitchen to the outside screen room. It gets off every single thing my family has thrown at me; from markers to exploded soda on the walls (that dried because no one told me about said explosion). This is my favorite product ever. I have a steam cleaner for the floors, but for stubborn spills I spray a little on the spots before I steam clean and feel safe having small ones crawl around without worries of nasty chemicals getting on their hands and feet!

The laundry detergent impressed me with it’s value. Due to it’s concentrated form, I use a lot less detergent each load and my clothes come out just as clean. And now that RolyPoly is here (and doing the usual baby thing of having an accident or four a day) I have had to do his laundry quite often. I feel so much more confident doing his laundry with a soap that is plant based and contains no nasty chemicals. The powder has virtually no scent, so I will be perfectly honest in my review and tell you that my youngest (19) daughter (the Queen of all things must smell really, really good-including laundry soap) was not impressed. She now buys her own to use, which works in my benefit two ways A) I save money and B) My husband’s skin tends to react to laundry detergent with lots of perfumes in it. So win/win for me. Seriously, you only need to use a small amount of this detergent and you get clean clothes! What a money saver and it is planet friendly.

Now that Presto is here, being such a preemie, I know that when he finally gets to come home he will have some special needs. I am heading over to the Baby section of this great store to find some products for his family as part of their baby shower gift (okay, he actually arrived just before the baby shower so we had to cancel, but we are planning a ‘baby arrival’ party instead).

Bullet Test or Bullet Proof….

I have a new site design, I have a new site design, la la la laaaaaa la la.

I should post something right? Well, it was a holiday weekend you know. I got a little behind, what with all the days off and stuff (you people who know I am unemployed and always ‘off” just shush yourselves!) We had a wonderful holiday weekend, I have pics to share. We had fireworks (you people who know where we live and that they are illegal here? just shush yourselves again!)

I want to see what bullets look like on the new site so here we gooooooooooooo:

  • I got to HOLD Presto today. I happened to show up at the NICU at just the right moment and now, Bear and I are the only people who have had the chance to hold him (besides his lucky, blessed, lovely parents). He was SO TINY and light (compared to RolyPoly). But he gained another 2 ozs in the last two days. That boy will be home before I can say, ummm, Presto!
  • I have talked to some trainers/horse people/my heart and my sister (who happens to own  a stable in KY and lots of horses-including one who ran IN THE Kentucky Derby year before last. I have decided (with Bear) on a new approach to our riding and my beloved horse, Rain. I quit my lease and restarted it again (crazy much) within days. But now Bear and I are working together with just Rain. When I am confident (and as talented as Bear), then she will look back into leasing Knighthawk when she can concentrate on what he needs and not have to watch over me.
  • I rode today and I wasn’t afraid. It was relaxing, yet exhilarating. Peaceful and contemplative. Perfect.  Also my new helmet fits well, not that I needed it.
  • On Thursday, Bear and I are getting more spa-stuff: Hyrdo Therapy, facials, massage, some super shower thingy (using up what is left on our Groupons. Sure wish they hadn’t had a limit of one per person.) I could completely and totally become a rich person who goes to the spa daily. I could. I just know I could.
  • Tomorrow I will be babysitting RolyPoly. We get him three days a week. You probably notice which days they are, because those are the days I don’t post anything.
  • I feel better emotionally and spiritually today than I have in months. I wonder if it’s just that super cute new header?!?! I mean Jenn couldn’t have come any closer to ‘creating’ me.
  • My husband got a new steering wheel for Father’s Day. He couldn’t install it before because the car was being painted. It’s in there now. And there must be some issue with the horn. Because HE KEEPS HONKING IT.
  • Done with bullets now. Will go finish cooking dinner.
  • Love you all and you can just keep on leaving me comments about how freaking awesome the new layout is!

WW~Let There Be Rock

Getting Back To The Great Outdoors

Growing up, my parents took me camping all the time. Nearly every special memory I have from my youth was at a campground or the cabin (which was camping, but with a bed!). The first 14 years of my married life were spent in Utah where camping is plentiful and my kids were indoctrinated at a very early age. After moving here in 1998, we camped a lot less. Life got busier and then the kids became teens and next thing I knew, they were all grown up and trying to live their own lives. But I miss camping a lot and I felt sad that Ladybug and Butterball weren’t growing up with the camping experience. So, for Nannygoat’s birthday I bought her and her family a giant tent! Then on Mother’s Day I bought her a camp stove. To top it all off, I made reservations for two sites at a local campground for this past weekend. Super close to home in case we needed to go back and just for one night–sort of a practice run.

Of course our newest addition to the family, RolyPoly, wasn’t about to be left out. So MacDougal, Funsize and the new babe pitched their tent too! Sparkles brought Floozy on her first camping trip with us and Lightening Boy came too. My cousin brought her two girls for the day so she (an they) could finally meet RolyPoly and her kids could play with Ladybug and Butterball. Although Bear and Fishboy couldn’t stay with us due to work on Sunday, they still came up Saturday evening for s’mores and a a visit.

My fun loving grand-girls had the time of their lives! Dirt, dirt and more dirt is the newest and most fun toy they’ve ever played with! The adults had a very nice time also. RolyPoly has been having some issues sleeping at night since he was born. Apparently the camping gene runs very strong in him, as his night at the campground was the best night he’s slept since he was born! All in all, it was a great time. Check out the pictures here on my flickr, the one here of RolyPoly is one of my faves!

I have so much going on I need to get around to sharing with you. Working on a big, special, fancy, blog redesign! And maybe then I will be inspired and blog some more (ha ha ha).  Registered for college….I have no idea what I am doing, but apparently I need to decide soon. Ladybug had her IEP for KINDERGARDEN!?!?! (not sure how that is possible, since she was just born right?). More to share about the babes, life in general, and stuff (like this new laptop I am typing on right now).

Health-wise, I am doing great. The meds kicked right in and I am right back on track. Now I just need to get back on track here. Thanks to all of you for hanging around during my ‘distracted by new baby’ time. I won’t say it’s over yet, but I hope for the blog’s sake I can get some writing done!

Quick Time

Who turned on turbo-life-speed??!!?? You could turn it off now!
