So It Comes To This or Just Shoot Me.

As many of you know, I lost my job of 10 years this past January. Apparently the economy sucks pretty bad, because I have been unable to get a new job. I had unemployment, which isn’t much, but it was something.

Since I ruptured my disc and had surgery, I no longer can collect unemployment. I have applied for short term disability, but it will take three weeks. In the meanwhile, I have $4 to my name and the plain truth is: I am hungry. Regular readers know I have qualified for a share of cost MediCal program that required I pay the first $1016 of my expenses for the surgery I just underwent. In order to get coverage for my pain and other medications, I had to start payment on that immediately.

Being temporarily unable to make aprons, it is with a heavy heart that I am posting a donation button on my right side bar. If you can help, God Bless and Thank You. If you can’t, the same still applies, God Bless you and Thank you.

  1. With the way the economy is alot of people are having a rough time finding a job. Even with disability or SSI they don’t give you much of what your should be entitled too. If money wasn’t so tight here I would help. If you lived closer I would give you stuff from my pantry.

    Your in my thoughts!

  5. oh, I’m so sorry to hear this! I’m going through similar financial troubles as I just bought a condo and my short term disability is 60% of my regular pay, which is not a lot to begin with but just enough to pay the bills. The 60%? Not so much! But I do have a 401k to borrow from if necessary and some friends are willing to pitch in…and since they are, it enables me to donate to you, too! Hugs, BIG hugs…oh, and that Stephen King book? I got it from my library, so chances are it might be at yours now as well ๐Ÿ™‚

I made a small donation (I wish I could have given more) but I hope it helps a little bit. My mom had to take a lot of time off last year due to a back injury & I remember she went through a lot trying to get her disability payments set up. In the end they only paid her a percentage of her paycheck & it was really hard for her.

I wish you all the best & just know that things always get better!

  8. I just wanted to come by and let you know I made a donation for what I could. I hope it helps. My mom struggled with unemployment and disability for almost two years after herniating two discs in her back, so I know what this is like.

    Blessings and hugs.

I can really relate because my husband is on disability from injuries to his back from the Army and also reinjured when he tried to work again. The cost of living is so expensive here in hawaii as well. I work for a non-profit organization that is known worldwide. I know our family services help out as much as they and you can even get food, clothes vouchers, and help with rent, electric etc. Email me at and tell me in which area you live and I can call and let you know which one is closest to you.

  20. Oh Vixen,

I so no what it is like to cry, and have it fall on def ears. To beg and not be herd. To have people turn away. And no longer be a friend. I am very please to see There are people who care here in blog lands.
I can relive the loneliness with my post.
People think the pantry’s can help but some are as bad as eating out of a dumpster. It is more than day old food. I have had fruit with mold already present. These were church based pantry’s. getting food donations from big grocery stores. I also know what Medicaid is like. We had to sell every thing we had of value before it excepted us. I almost went insane. As when we finely got SS it was to much money and every month they took $397 for (Medicaid) out of $1227. Leaving us to live on a bit over $800 a month. I have now learned to live on this amount every month. I have learned to feel blessed and happy. This is the only way I survive.

Please know I am a friend and would give you 1/2 my food if you were here. I would be a shoulder to cry on. And an ear to listen. A hug when needed. But most of all, you have my heart & friend ship if you want it..

  22. Vixen,
I am sorry it took so long for me to get over here. Trouble has been afoot at home as well and I have a crashed hard drive and been workin.’

I hope you are feeling a bit better now after your surgery. Both my mom and my MIL have had issues too. Very painful stuff.

The tea I made was a Lipton fruity tea, I think hybiscus and pommegranite. Next time I am in the store I will check for sure. Then I either sliced tangerines or lemons…I can’t remember which and put in sugar to taste. The best flavor is from boiling the tea in a pot until dark. The let cool and poor over ice!!! Yum. ๐Ÿ™‚

I was so glad to meet you and your family and if you ever are in the area again we’d love to have you. Hopefully the kids will not be napping next time. Bye for now.
